HANOI - Foreign
investors have been involved in 515 projects year-to-date, worth US$1.1
billion, up 30 per cent year-on-year in numbers but down 47 per cent in
value, the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) reported. Of the
projects, two business cooperation contracts in oil and gas valued at
US$30 million, a US$34.5-million sports shoe factory, and a
US$30-million electronics component plant, stand out. MPI officials
predicted the country would attract little FDI towards the end of 2002
despite its investment promotion efforts overseas, especially in western
Europe, Japan, Taiwan and the United States.
